Occipitofrontal Circumference

Occipitofrontal Circumference (OFC) refers to the measurement around the largest part of the head, taken from the most prominent part of the forehead (frontal bone) to the farthest point on the back of the head (occipital bone).

It is a standard pediatric measurement used to assess head growth and brain development in children.

Nellhaus (1968) published widely-used reference charts for OFC to track normal head growth in children from birth to 18 years.

These charts help clinicians identify conditions like microcephaly (abnormally small head) or macrocephaly (abnormally large head).
